Birmingham's
Festival of Acting & Musical Entertainment.
(B.F.A.M.E.)
The festival is split into two parts:
1. The Festival Week.
2. The adult full-length peripatetic drama and musical festival.
Competitive festivals are not primarily for the kudos of winning trophies, but
also to learn from the constructive comments of a professional adjudicator. This
should help to broaden ones overall knowledge and understanding of the
theatrical production.
Festival Week:
Each year around the end of February beginning of
March, the Guild stages the above Festival. This is a one week festival of
One-Act plays and some individual youth work.
Both adult and youth groups are eligible to enter the various
categories in the Festival and there are many beautiful trophies to be won. (For
a full list of this years winners hit the button at the top of the page).
The Festival provides an invaluable opportunity for the
participants to perform in competition in unfamiliar surroundings in front of a
live audience. Both performers and audience have the opportunity to learn
from the constructive criticisms offered by a professional adjudicator.
The Festival is also recognized as a first round of the
All-England Theatre Festival and at least one winning team from B.F.A.M.E.
becomes eligible to go forward to the Western Divisional Quarter Final and subsequent
rounds of the Competition with the prospect of ultimate progression to the
British Final.
The Guild is also a member of the National Drama Festivals
Association who normally stage an annual All-Winners Festival in England and the
winners of B.F.A.M.E. are considered for this Festival too.
The Peripatetic Festivals:
The idea of the Peripatetic Festivals is to allow full-length
adult drama and musical productions to be reviewed during their own
performance at their own venue, and still be part of the B.F.A.M.E. Festival
Week.
The presentation of trophies available in all
categories of the Festival takes place on the final night of the B.F.A.M.E.
Festival Week, making this an evening of celebration of amateur theatre in
Birmingham.
